There’s a Thing

There’s a tune, there’s a word

it’s a song about a bird

how it tries and tries to fly

but still cannot touch the sky

There’s a line, there’s a verse

it’s a poem about a nurse

how she treats others with care

but forgets she has her own load to bear

There’s a paper, there’s a memory

it’s a picture of a girl that used to be me

how her smile turned into a frown

how her only dream now is to drown

There’s a tune, there’s a word

the time is up for the bird

she can never again use her voice

as a beast swallows her without so much as a noise

There’s a line there’s a verse

the time is up for the nurse

she can never again heal others with her care

as she lay in bed breathing in her last fresh air

There’s a paper, there’s a memory

the time is up for the girl who used to be me

she can never again see the light of day

as I kick the chair and take my life away
